Backyard - Baby Hawk: Wow, what an evening! Mike spotted this baby hawk in our backyard by our shed tonight. I felt terrible because it was getting late, and he didn’t seem to know how to fly. I was looking online for people who might be able to help, and finally someone returned my call. He said that it was not unusual for birds to fall out of trees while they are “branching” - they can’t fly yet, but they are walking on a branch. If a strong wind or rain comes, it could knock them off the branch and onto the ground. (We had a pretty heavy thunderstorm today) Well, long story short, Mike just checked tonight, and he was underneath our utility trailer. I hope he survives the night. I know it’s all part of nature, but I hate thinking of a poor little baby being eaten by the night creatures around here. Keep good thoughts that he makes it through the night, and his parents find him. If he is still around tomorrow, the man I spoke to told me to call him again to give him an update. BTW, can anyone ID the type of hawk this is? I love his blue eyes, I think he must be really young to still have blue eyes!
